FIND DIRECTION AND PURPOSE AFTER LOSS

Online LGBTQ+ Affirmative Grief Therapy in Colorado, Utah, Wisconsin, and PSYPACT states

If you've experienced a major loss in your life, you might be thinking:

"I don't know who I am anymore."

"I feel like I'm going crazy."

"I can never get back to the life I had and who I was."

"I don't see a future for myself."

Experiencing loss can feel isolating, overwhelming, and confusing—especially as an LGBTQ+ person navigating life’s unique challenges. Whether you’ve lost a partner, friend, family member, or even the life you expected, grief can show up in ways that leave you questioning how to move forward.

In my practice, I work with LGBTQ+ adults who are facing grief and loss, helping them feel seen, understood, and supported. Through online grief counseling, we focus on your experience—your feelings, memories, and what matters most to you—so you can find ways to live a life aligned with your values, even in the midst of loss and change.

For LGBTQ+ people, loss hits differently. Like you, many LGBTQ+ adults carry layers of loss that others may not fully see. Grief related to HIV/AIDS. Losing identity after being immersed in caregiving for a member of your chosen family. Chronic illness or a new disability that changes how you interact with the community. Estrangement from family. Fewer peers who share a common history. Fear of growing old alone, or of not being understood by medical or care providers.

Even pride in a life well-lived can coexist with a deep sense of disappointment that things feel harder, smaller, or lonelier than you expected. You may feel regret or guilt over missed opportunities and things left unsaid.

You may be grieving the death of a loved one, adjusting to chronic illness or a new disability, or feeling emotionally depleted while trying to appear “okay” to others. You may feel stuck in painful memories of what happened, or how life used to be, unsure how to move forward when the future you planned for no longer feels possible. You long to feel like yourself again, with a clear sense of purpose.

Where to go from here? Together, we can answer that question.

I'm Dr. Weston Donaldson (he/him), a licensed psychologist providing online psychotherapy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) adults and older adults navigating loss, change, and aging. I help LGBTQ+ people grieve what’s been lost, reconnect with themselves, and move forward with greater clarity and support. My work is grounded in the belief that if you have made it this far, you already bring resilience, values, and lived wisdom we can build on—even if they feel out of reach right now.

In therapy, we slow things down. We make space to grieve what has been lost, to name what still matters, and to understand how your history, identity, and current circumstances intersect. Together, we work toward restoring a sense of connection—to yourself, to others, and to a future that feels meaningful and possible. This may include addressing depression, discouragement, loneliness, health-related stress, caregiving strain, or questions about purpose and belonging in the years ahead.

Loss changes everything, but it doesn't have to be the end of your story. I can help you write the next chapter.
