WINTERING IN TOGETHER:
An Online Supportive Group for LGBTQIA+ Adults and Older Adults
The excitement, stress, and activity of the holidays has passed, and we look on to the remaining cold months before the emergence of spring. In centuries past, we would have huddled around a common fire to warm our hands and share a meal, managing our resources amongst ourselves as best we can while we wait for the return of the warm summer months. In this group, we gather in a virtual space to pass the remaining weeks of winter together, to draw from one another's individual fire and create a resilient, connected community. As LGBTQIA+ people, we bring special self-knowledge and adaptation to our own personal "winters." This group is a place to feel heard, learn from others, and contemplate themes and personal practices that can be helpful in this season and throughout the rest of the year.

Themes and materials have been chosen from writings about coping with adverse or difficult times, especially those based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Each group will incorporate mindfulness-based relaxation exercises, an introduction and application of the theme, and open space for group discussion questions. Group participants will be encouraged to set goals or otherwise consider ways to incorporate "takeaways" into their lives.
Overview
The group will focus on four themes, and each theme will be covered 2 weeks at a time for 8 weeks in 60-minute virtual sessions. There will be some optional practice in between sessions to offer growth and continuity to participants.
